Transient shelters and pavilions that respond to the multi-faceted layers of NYC’s harsh sidewalks.

The architecture proposed is in response to the multi-faceted layering of the NYC street. The passerby will encounter a system where each element, person, and activity depend on each other for stabilization. The design visually reflects and further encourages social interaction of all people groups, while fulfilling the need for new typologies of public infrastructure in cities.
Each pod, colored in blue, houses a specific program and anchors the dynamic wood-lam structure, colored in yellow, which supports services and seating. Finally, the street sidewalk rises above both and dresses the pavilions in concrete panels that provide shading and light shelter. The three layers together provide a new public architecture that is economic in scale and that can be adapted to a variety of needs and programs.
